Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold bow with arrow erect, point up, in front of a black water bouget, all above a red scroll bearing the inscription "SERVICE FORWARD" in gold letters.

Symbolism
The ancient water bouget, a device used to supply basic needs to military personnel, together with the bow and arrow symbolizing speed and accuracy, allude to the mission of the 49th Transportation Group, in the movement of men and materiel. The bow and arrow, a classic weapon of war, further signifies the requirement that the combat trucker be prepared to fight to protect his load and move it against enemy opposition to destination. The inscription "Service Forward" refers to both the logistic and fighting missions.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 December 1968.
